A Family Story That Lives On

A Family Story That Lives On

The story behind this restaurant begins at the end of the Vietnam War. Tommy Hoang grew up hearing about his mother Nga Nguyen, known in her hometown for her home cooking and thoughtful vegetarian recipes made for her father. Nga once dreamed of opening a family restaurant, but war separated her from her husband for years. That dream faded with time. In 2009, Tommy opened this restaurant to carry her recipes forward and keep her story alive for future generations.

This restaurant was built on respect for family, tradition, and steady care in the kitchen. The goal has always been simple: serve Vietnamese dishes that reflect years of practice and personal history. Every bowl and plate follows the same approach—clear recipes, focused preparation, and consistency guests can trust. By preserving Nga’s cooking style, the restaurant shares more than meals; it shares a piece of a family journey shaped by patience and resilience.

For over 16 years, the heart of this restaurant has been the people it serves. Guests, neighbors, and readers of Washington City Paper helped shape its success, including being voted Best Pho three years in a row and earning national recognition from Forbes. That support is never taken for granted. This space exists because of the community, and every visit reflects gratitude for those who continue to return and share the experience with others.
